Wiesbaden. The inflation rate in Hesse has increased again. In March, consumer prices were expected to be 2.4 percent above the level of the previous year, as the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced. In February 2025, the inflation rate had 2.3 percent and 2.5 percent in January 2025. In March 2025, average was 1.5 percent cheaper than in February. You also had to pay 3.5 percent less for fuels. Electricity, on the other hand, cost 1.2 percent and natural gas 0.2 percent more than in the previous month, and energy prices also slightly gave up in the year, and by 0.8 percent. Heating oil recorded by 8.8 percent compared to March 2024; Firewood and wood pellets (minus 6.5 percent) were also significantly cheaper. Fuel also cost 4.8 percent less than in March a year ago at the petrol stations. Food, on the other hand, increased by 2.9 percent in the annual comparison and thus more than consumer prices as a whole. Compared to the previous month of February, food prices rose slightly by 0.3 percent. Especially for food fats and oils, consumers had to pay more than in March 2024 (plus 10.0 percent), and prices for butter even climbed by 26.6 percent. Fruit (plus 7.2 percent), vegetables (plus 6.3 percent) and mineral water, lemonades and juices (plus 6.4 percent) were also more expensive. Average of 0.5 percent higher prices were due for services compared to March 2024. The prices for insurance companies for traffic climbed by 20.1 percent, laminated tickets by 9.8 percent and the maintenance and repair of vehicles by 4.9 percent. While package tours were 3.2 percent more expensive than in March 2024, flight tickets were 8.0 percent cheaper, and the services of social institutions (plus 9.3 percent) and in restaurants (plus 3.5 percent) and for overnight stays (plus 4.1 percent) were also more expensive.
