After the break with US President Donald Trump (78) wants to Elon Musk (53) again devote more to his companies-and has promised that Teslas could probably start Robotaxi offer on June 22. Musk wrote this on his online platform X. However, the appointment could still be postponed because Tesla “Paranoid” is in terms of security.
Musk had already announced that Tesla would initially only start 10 to 20 vehicles in part of the Texas city of Austin.
As of June 28th, Tesla also wanted to deliver a model Y Model Y, built in Austin, to deliver the buyer without drivers in front of the door, Musk continued.
Doubts about the security of the autonomous Teslas
According to previous information, Tesla plans to use commercially available model-Y vehicles at its Robotaxi service. This makes experts doubt the reliability of the autonomous Teslas. The US transport security authority also has a lot of questions that Tesla has to answer by June 19.
One of the reasons: Musk only wants to rely on cameras and do without the more expensive laser radars, which the leading Robotaxi company, for example, Waymo used.
The laser radars-also known as LIDAR-tap the surroundings of the vehicles and can therefore recognize objects and people even in difficult lighting conditions.
Only with cameras would Musk be a cost advantage. He claims that most of the new Tesla vehicles already have everything necessary to be on the move as self -driving cars. That is why Musk always speaks of millions of autonomous Teslas, which would soon be on the streets and represents his company as the future market leader.
Waymo leads to autonomous driving
With over 1500 robotaxis, the Google sister company Waymo is currently making more than 250,000 trips with passengers per week in four US cities.
So far, Tesla demonstrated autonomous driving at an event on the site of the Hollywood studio Warner Bros. with a robotaxi vehicle without a steering wheel and pedals, the production of which was announced for next year.
On Tuesday, a Tesla was filmed in Austin without a person at the wheel. However, the vehicles should – like Waymos – be remotely controlled.
