German FAZ: VW picks up – and now delivers its robot taxis in Serie009479

In the Hamburg districts northeast of the Alster, they are almost part of the street scene: gently whirring, black and yellow electric bullies from Volkswagen, which autonomously roll through Wandsbek, Winterhude and Uhlenhorst. A fleet of three dozen self -driving “ID Buzz” is there, still with security drivers on the front seats, in all cases if the technology weakens. VW sends its robot taxis on a test drive. The test field is manageable and no normal passengers are still in. But the Wolfsburgers know that in the race for autonomous driving, every day now counts. In keeping with the World Congress of Mobility, which is currently being guested in Hamburg, the electric buses are therefore also starting a kind of city tour outside of their home area. With an interested specialist audience, they move into the hustle and bustle around the Reeperbahn.
