SAP originally wanted to merge, Deutsche Telekom, Ionos, the Schwarz Group and Siemens for the application for such a gigafactory. In the past few weeks, however, the participants have not been able to agree on a consortium that would distribute the financial burdens that are connected to the project over several shoulders. Despite the approximately 35 percent funding from the EU, these costs remain high – and would be better borne together. Now there is again a “small state” in which individual companies submit interest – a large line is missing. That is more than unfortunate. Yes, there are collaborations between participants, but the master plan is missing, and Europe has no time for such games. If you are serious about the digital sovereignty of this continent, a suitable AI infrastructure must now be created. But again this is about particular interests. The federal states as locations, companies, politics. Germany stumbles over its own feet again, and the prerequisites are clear: data centers for AI need electricity. Lots of electricity. Therefore, they should be located where the electricity is produced – and that is more in the north of the Republic. Center centers for AI need quick access to international network hubs in Germany. And the largest in Germany is in Frankfurt. It is always incomprehensible that these actually simple logics do not apply. There are national political sensitivities or wishes, as you can hear from Bavaria or North Rhine-Westphalia. Pragmatics are asked. In the United States, Open Ai, Oracle and Softbank march to the Oval Office and, together with the president, announce investments of $ 500 billion. And it is being built. Now. No longer lamenting or concerns of concern. The train actually left the train station. But at least we still see the taillights. So there is hope. FAZ-BMDieses topic-and many other exciting developments in AI economy-we will be on our 2nd f.a.Z. AI conference on 2nd/3rd Discuss in Frankfurt in July 2025. Special guest of our conference is Federal Minister of Digital Dr. Karsten Wildberger. We also discuss with Richard Socher, the CEO and founder of you.com, why agents fundamentally simplify the use of AI. A master class with the AI agents is also not missing, as does answers to the question of what challenges the industry has to cope with in the AI age and what the AI does with the jobs. To register it goes here. We look forward to seeing you! Johannes Winkelhage
