Dear reader, dear reader,
While the south of Germany is still in holiday mode, we report back from our short summer break. The view of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg is also worthwhile in supposedly quiet times: BMW and Mercedes, that sounds like rear-wheel drive, kidney against honeycomb grill. Occasionally, the competitors have also pondered in common in the past.
In 2019, BMW and Mercedes bundled their mobility ideas in the Joint Venture Your Now. “Sky is the limit,” was visioned by a great future. In the meantime the relationship has failed, your Now came to the flop. What both sides now think about promises even more explosives. It’s about the most sanctuary of the car. Topic of the week: Mercedes and BMW work on an engine pact
When the then Mercedes and BMW bosses Dieter Zetsche (72) and Norbert Reithofer (69) in 2009 buried considerations to work together at engines, the picture of cuddling hedgehogs was circulating: proud engineers on both sides that should cooperate with their counterparts at the competitor? Rather not. Today the bosses in Munich and Untertürkheim are called Oliver Zipse (61) and Ola Källenius (56). And it looks like they got the engine pact out of the drawer again. The prospect of saving development and production costs together seems to appeal to both. A decision should be made in the next eight weeks. With us you will find out exclusively, Who could start with the possible start in 2027 with what

In Germany, around 20 percent more new electric cars were approved in the first half of 2025 than two years ago – although there were still the “environmental bonus” in 2023. So everything Tutti in terms of electric, do the Stromer finally drive on the fast lane? Not so quickly, the Central Association of German Motor Motor Show (ZDK) warns. The dealer lobby still sees an “e-car dleed”. Sounds strange, but the ZDK provides an explanation: the numbers primarily rose through so -called self -registrations of car manufacturers and dealers. Private customers, on the other hand, even bought a new e-car less often: two years ago, 90,623 private buyers were electrified, now only 82,294.
DeepDrive: Rearing in the workshop
Not particularly helpful for the acceptance of electric cars are serious repair costs than with combustion engines. The Insurance Association GDV had proclaimed up to 25 percent e-surcharge a year ago in fully comprehensive damage. After all, the gap seems to be a little closer, now the difference is still at 15 to 20 percent
. Why? According to the GDV, workshops, towing companies, fire brigades and experts have more experience with broken electric cars.
The rail problems of Federal Transport Minister Schnieder would probably like to have his previous predecessor. The Berlin public prosecutor’s office has charged Andreas Scheuer (50) about the alleged false statement before the toll investigation committee of the Bundestag. The European Court of Justice stopped the car toll in June 2019. In October 2020, contrary to the information from the intended toll operators, Scheuer assured that he had not received an offer to postpone the CSU Prestige Project. Ultimately, the Federal Republic of Germany had to pay the operator 243 million euros in damages. Scheuer was “affected” in front of his Instagram followers because of the indictment. It is probably a filler for the media summer hole and “politically motivated”. Scheuer’s predecessor Peter Ramsauer (71) once phrased: “Super gasoline flows through Andis.” Briefly taking your foot from the furor gas pedal would not be the worst idea.
Get well through the week!
Your Christoph Seyerlein
