Orange -colored robotic arms move up and down in Hall 1 of the Volkswagenwerk in Baunatal, grab gear wheels of assembly lines, turn and put them together into engines. An electric motor will be finished every 28 seconds, says Alfred Mayer. In the voice of the long-standing VW employee, who now leads visitors through the component work as a retiree, fascinating with it-and a bit of melancholy. An employee still stands every few meters on the production lines for classic manual transmission. The production of the electric motors, on the other hand, is largely automated.
