Mercedes-Benz Launches All-New G450d Diesel SUV in India

Mercedes-Benz India has unveiled the G450d, a diesel-powered variant of its iconic G-Class SUV, marking the first time the luxury automaker offers the nameplate across three different powertrains in the country. The vehicle was launched on October 13, 2025, and will be available to select customers with only 50 exclusive units allocated in the first phase.

The new G450d is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder inline diesel engine producing 270 kilowatts and 750 Newton-meters of torque. Equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system incorporating an integrated starter generator, the engine receives an additional 15 kilowatts of assistance at lower speeds. The SUV accelerates from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.8 seconds, with a top speed of 210 kilometers per hour.

“The new G450d underlines our commitment to offer diesel, petrol and electric powertrain for the first time in India to the G-Class,” said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India. He emphasized that the vehicle ensures Mercedes-Benz now has a G-Class option for every customer requirement in the country.

The G450d retains the G-Class’s legendary off-road capabilities, featuring ladder-frame construction, three mechanical differential locks, and a combination of double wishbone independent front suspension with a rigid rear axle.

The vehicle can achieve up to 100 percent gradeability, maintains 241 millimeters of ground clearance between axles, and can ford through water up to 70 centimeters deep.

Inside, the SUV features a redesigned off-road cockpit alongside the latest MBUX NTG7 infotainment system with 12.3-inch driver and multimedia displays. The system includes smartphone integration via wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, augmented reality navigation, and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

The luxurious cabin includes two-tone Nappa leather, Burmester 3D Surround Sound with Dolby Atmos, and a customizable ambient lighting system.

The vehicle offers distinctive design elements including a new bumper with four vertical louvers, refreshed A-pillar cladding, and a roof-edge spoiler lip. It is available with 20-inch AMG alloy wheels in high gloss black finish.

Customers can also access extensive MANUFAKTUR customization options for upholstery and paint colors.

The Mercedes-Benz G450d is priced starting at Rs. 2.90 crore, all-India ex-showroom. Mercedes-Benz India is simultaneously launching the “G-Tribe Escapade,” an exclusive driving experience for select customers featuring the entire luxury SUV range.

The inaugural escapade will span three journeys through Bhutan’s scenic regions—Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro—scheduled between November and December 2025. The experience will feature a fleet of Mercedes-Benz SUVs, including the AMG G63, G580, EQS SUVs, GLS, GLE 450 4MATIC, and AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé.
