Among the major European car manufacturers, only BMW is currently on track to meet the CO₂ emissions limits set by the EU for all new fleet sales. According to a forecast by the market monitoring company S&P Global Mobility, the BMW Group (including the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands) was able to achieve a sales share of battery electric cars (BEV) of 24.5 percent in the first nine months. This not only means a significant increase in the already high previous year’s figure. Only BMW will significantly exceed the 20 percent share for 2025, which is seen in the industry as the threshold for compliance with the EU rules for the CO₂ limit values of the newly registered car fleet. The other companies would face billions in fines without additional sales success with electric cars. With more than 15 percent sales share of plug-in cars, the BMW Group has achieved a total of 40 percent sales share of drive systems that can be electrically charged.
