German Manager Magazine: Daimler Truck: Slump in profits in the USA weighs on 004539

Daimler trucks in the third quarter due to the slump in demand USA recorded large losses in profits. The adjusted operating result (EBIT) fell by 40 percent to 716 million euros from July to September compared to the same period last year, as the company announced on Friday. Sales fell to around the same extent as sales by 14 percent to 10.6 billion euros. The share, which has been on the decline for months, fell slightly before the trading session.

The figures were below the company’s analyst forecast of 11.6 billion euros in sales and 729 million euros in operating profit. “The company’s performance was dampened by ongoing pressures in the North American truck market, where customers remain cautious in the face of a very weak freight environment and pending regulatory clarity,” said the DAX group.

In North America, normally Daimler’s most profitable region, operating profit shrank by 64 percent to 257 million euros, and the margin almost halved to 6.4 percent. Thanks to increased sales, the European business improved compared to the weak previous year’s figures to 319 million euros, a growth of 12 percent. The Mercedes-Benz Trucks brand has become number one in Europe again, said Daimler Truck boss Karin Radström (46). It has initiated a cost-cutting program with staff cuts to improve low profitability. This contributed to the company’s resilience.

The board is sticking to its forecast for the full year 2025. An adjusted return on sales in the industrial business of seven to 9 percent is expected – after nine months it is 8.5 percent.
