Nevertheless, the situation remains dicey: China’s Economics Minister Wang Wentao (61) phoned his counterpart Katherina Reiche (52) on Wednesday. China hopes, Wentao said, that Germany will take an “active role” to persuade the Dutch government to “correct its erroneous practices.”

Topic of the week: Brose looking for a partner

Brose patriarch Michael Stoschek (77) recently announced again that he wanted to slow down. At the end of the year, he will hand over the chairmanship of the board of directors to his son Maximilian (47) – and after more than 50 years, he will no longer be the supplier’s personified center of power, at least officially. Will it really happen like that? Not everyone at Brose believes in it yet. Also because Stoschek senior appears to be much more actively involved than before. For example when looking for a partner. Stoschek wants to minimize the risk for his family and is therefore considering selling his shares. Goldman Sachs is mandated, Stoschek would ideally like to fraternize with a strategic investor. And according to our information, the patron already has a first favorite for Brose’s Bromance

.

Between 2014 and 2021, Mercedes dominated Formula 1, winning the constructors’ world championship eight times in a row, and the drivers Lewis Hamilton (40) and Nico Rosberg (40) won six and one driver’s titles respectively. The pack leader of the successful team: Toto Wolff (53). Unlike Hamilton and Rosberg, he is still active with the Swabians and is looking for the recipe for the way back to the top. Recently, Wolff went on another search: He was looking for an investor. According to the “Financial Times

” Sell 5 percent of his company Motorsport Investment Ltd. Their portfolio also includes a third of the shares in the Mercedes racing team. Current market value: 86.5 million euros. The buyer is “FT” Crowdstrike boss George Kurtz (60), also a racing driver.

Deepdrive: Young and distracted

Young people are more easily distracted while driving than older people. According to a long-term study by the insurer DA Direct

72 percent of people under 30 in Germany are “severely distracted” while driving. The average across all age groups is 58 percent. Anyone who frequently performs at least one activity while driving, such as using a smartphone, eating/drinking or even talking, is considered highly distracted. Many younger people seem to find it difficult to keep their hands off smartphones in particular. For example, 15 percent of them regularly read text messages even though they are driving.

The world is currently meeting in Belém, Brazil, for the UN climate conference. The city of millions is located in the Amazon region, the “green lung” of the earth. A well-chosen location from a symbolic point of view; this shows the urgency for more climate protection. Apparently, people in Brazil were not well prepared for the thousands of participants expected. There are far too few hotel rooms in Belém. A solution from the Brazilian government leaves observers quite perplexed: two large cruise ships docked in the port of Belém as floating hotels for up to 6,000 people. The large steamers are also a symbol for many – of climate pollution, not protection.

I wish you a good week, also ecologically speaking.

Yours, Christoph Seyerlein
