Three hours after the pope’s visit to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the Vatican released a statement saying that Leo XIV had paused there for “a brief moment of prayer.” The statement, which was apparently sent by mistake, was later withdrawn. Because during his 20-minute stay, the Pope at least did not visibly pray – in contrast to his two predecessors Francis and Benedict XVI.
