The global electric car market continued to grow last year, but the momentum is being redistributed. While the US market is stagnating, competition in China has exploded – and with it sales figures: almost nine million electric cars were sold in China last year, 33 percent more than the year before, shows a PwC analysis for F.A.Z. Digital economy. The result is significant shifts in the world rankings: BYD has replaced the American pioneer Tesla as the new world market leader, Geely has pushed Volkswagen off the podium as the new number 3 and Xpeng has almost overtaken BMW.
