The two sensor specialists LeddarTech and First Sensor cooperate for new lidar solutions.
Of the lidar is one of the most important sensors in the autonomous car, it shows the environment in 3D and allows routing and positioning of the vehicles. Although the importance of the sensor not all industry stakeholders divide, it is indispensable for most of the industry.
This market is also highly competitive and there are some companies that have dedicated themselves to the sensor. This includes the company LeddarTech, who is now working with First Sensor to develop new lidar solutions. Specifically, they plan to build an open and comprehensive platform for this sensor.
This concept would bring some benefits, including standardization of components and better scalability in production. Furthermore, one promises a cost reduction, because the Lidarsensor is still the cost driver in autonomous driving with a minimum of four-digit amount.
The cooperation initially envisages working together on an evaluation kit and a tool for Tier 1 customers. The basis for this is provided by the LeddarEngine for signal processing and the avalanche photodiodes (APD), which are also used as arrays. This should result in new solutions that are integrated into the ecosystem.
