Volkswagen and Daimler: The groups are exploring possible cooperation at the highest level.

Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess (61) and his Daimler colleague Ola Källenius (50) are also involved. A Daimler spokesman said he knew nothing of the talks.

CEO Källenius has let his developers work on a type of automotive operating system for some time. The new software platform is to be introduced with the future MMA model architecture, which will be flexible in the future for combustion engines and electric models. The first cars based on architecture are currently planned for 2024.

Volkswagen already uses a similar operating system for the new ID.3 electric model, but still has a number of problems with the new technology. The car is due to go on sale in the summer. CEO Herbert Diess has already spun off the software subsidiary Car Software Org (CSO) in order to offer the new operating system to other companies in the future.

At the annual press conference in Wolfsburg on Tuesday, he announced that Volkswagen would invest more than 7 billion euros in the Group’s software competence by 2025. They would also look for new partners. Talks with the supplier Continental about participating in the Car Software Org had failed before Christmas.
