E-car startups Nio and Byton rely on electric SUVs
China’s new Tesla rivals – they are already here
They have potent Chinese backers on their backs, bring loads of Western auto engineers on board and are already the first electric electric SUV ready series: A handful of startups from China wants to resist the electric car pioneer Tesla – with electric car models, the Californians should at least be equal.
More than a handful of startups are not leaving it up to ambitious announcements: over the past few months, they’ve been showing close-to-production prototypes; some are close to mass production – or have already begun. The startup Nio wants to deliver its first electric SUV already in early 2018 to customers.
But do Nio and his colleagues really have what it takes to make Tesla and, in just a few years, German auto companies compete with electric cars? Who keeps his promises, who is out of the race before the start of the race? Introducing China’s ambitious electric car startups and using the data available so far to show just how far Tesla fighters from the Middle Kingdom are.
