Hundreds of thousands of vehicles are affected by the allegation of illegal exhaust technology.
Stuttgart The carmaker Daimler has to recall around 170,000 additional diesel vehicles because of the allegation of illegal exhaust technology. Older models of the A, B, C, E and S class are affected by Mercedes Benz with the emission standard Euro 5, of which about 60,000 in Germanysaid a spokesman on Friday.
The Federal Motor Transport Authority has supplemented a recall notice issued last year, which referred to the GLK off-road vehicle, with additional series. The affected vehicles would no longer be produced since mid-2014 at the latest.
Daimler emphasized that they would continue to cooperate with the authorities, but would also object to this supplementary decision. The Federal Motor Transport Authority classifies the technology used in the vehicles as an illegal shutdown device. Daimler considers them permissible.
After the GLK recall a year ago, the company had already stressed that the technology complained of was still in many other models that were being investigated and that further recalls could therefore be expected. It is therefore also not a matter of a new matter. An additional burden on the result in the balance sheet by the further recalls is also not expected.
With the now expanded decision, the number of cars and vans that Daimler had to or must call back because of the allegation of an illegal shutdown device is growing, according to the group, to more than 1.4 million, of which around 580,000 are in Germany.
