After Merger of carsharing providers from Daimler and BMW Car expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer considers a merger with the Chinese supplier Cao Cao possible. Cao Cao belong to the GeelyGroup of the largest DaimlerShareholder Li Shufu and is already very successful in China with ten million customers.

“Mobility service providers are driven by economies of scale – and they are found in China,” said the Duisburg economics professor of the German Press Agency. “So you can well imagine that with the merger Car2Go and DriveNow, perhaps only an intermediate step was reached, because for Li Shufu, it could make a lot of sense to unite the new company with Cao Cao.”

Daimler’s Car2Go is also active in China. Li Shufu belongs with his Ten percent interest in Daimler indirectly already five percent in the new joint venture with the car sharing and mobility services of Daimler and BMW, “And increasing the stock ownership of Daimler would certainly make sense for Geely,” said Dudenhöffer. “So maybe Car2Go and DriveNow is just an intermediate step, in which even BMW would get closer to the less-valued Chinese Geely.”
