This is the Ineos Grenadier, a new 4×4 that’s heavily inspired by classic versions of the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes G-Class.
It comes from a new British-based spin-off brand of chemical giants Ineos, and will go on sale in 2022.
Ineos Grenadier design
No, this isn’t some Grand Theft Auto knock-off of the Land Rover Defender — it’s a very real car.
The Ineos Grenadier is undoubtedly inspired by that classic Brit, what with the boxy profile, flat front end and a roof with black rubber trimmings to set it apart.
It’s a very utilitarian design in all honesty (some may say ugly but not necessarily us) though it does get some creature comforts, such as the LED headlights.
Ineos Grenadier interior and infotainment
The function-over-form approach is carried through to the interior of the Ineos Grenadier as well. There’s no plush leathers, vegan-friendly bespoke materials or diamond-encrusted gear shifters here.
You get five seats made by Recaro, flooring lined in rubber with drain plugs to hose it out, loads of grab handles for your passengers and some overhead controls to operate the differentials and some electronic gubbins.
There is a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system though, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complete with a set of physical buttons so you can operate it without smearing the screen in muck after a muddy adventure.
Ineos Grenadier engines and 4×4 system
You’ve got a choice of a petrol or diesel engine in the Ineos Grenadier, with both units sourced from BMW.
Both are 3.0-litre straight-sixes, with the petrol producing 285hp and 450Nm of torque while the diesel outputs 249hp and 550Nm of torque.
They’re also linked up to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and send power through a permanent all-wheel-drive system. This allows for optimum grip when off-roading, though comes at the cost of on-road efficiency.
Ineos Grenadier price and release date
Sales of the Ineos Grenadier are set to start in 2022, though no word yet on pricing.
Expect it to start from around £40,000 — and we’d probably add a few extra for some serious off-roading aftermarket upgrades…
