Munich In December, Daimler wants to finally break open the Stuttgart conglomerate with the “Project Focus” and transfer it to two independent companies: Mercedes-Benz for cars and vans and Daimler Truck for trucks and buses. This emerges from a 46-page demerger agreement with 132 pages of appendix, which is available to the Handelsblatt.
The contract regulates the modalities of the historical step. For example, it has now been clarified how the companies will deal with the rights to the brands “Daimler” and “Mercedes-Benz”. Accordingly, Daimler AG sells “all registered or acquired rights to the Daimler brand, as well as the associated brand families and domains” to Daimler Truck AG. Costs: 9.7 million euros, plus sales tax.
The background to the agreement is that Daimler AG is to be renamed Mercedes-Benz Group AG on February 1, 2022. The name Daimler disappears from the passenger car sector and only remains in the truck business.
