The production stop in some areas and the renewed short-time work due to a lack of parts will apply from Monday and initially until the end of the week, Daimler announced. Daimler did not provide any figures on the employees affected. Initially, “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” reported.
In Bremen, as well as in Rastatt and partly in Sindelfingen, production was only resumed at the beginning of this week. In Rastatt and Sindelfingen, according to the company, regular work is to be carried out next week, with interruptions in certain areas only on individual days. For the time being, production in the Hungarian Mercedes plant in Kecskemét has been suspended, a production stop that has been in place for several weeks – during this time, the factory holidays that were planned anyway – were extended to the end of next week.
Mainly the C-Class and the GLC SUV are built in Bremen, the B-Class in Kecskemét and the A-Class in Rastatt, for example. In addition to the E-Class, the S-Class and its electric counterpart EQS also roll off the assembly line in Sindelfingen. The production of the latter two profitable models has mostly continued unrestricted.
More than 12,000 people are employed in the Bremen plant, around 6,500 in Rastatt, around 4,700 in Kecskemét and 25,000 in Sindelfingen. Employees at these four locations have had temporary production stops over the past few months. The background to this are problems with the replenishment of electronic chips, which also force other car companies to interrupt production.
