In news releases and marketing materials, supercars and hypercars are presented to sound and seem like ideas from another planet. When you consider the otherworldly engines, extravagant technology, special color codes, maintenance demands, and even ownership restrictions, you wonder why manufacturers go through so much trouble just to make a fast car.
But there are people willing to invest a fortune in them. Automakers, on the other hand, are more encouraged to continue building them in all uniqueness and exquisite state. Today, there are more companies working on various supercar models than we’ve ever witnessed. From Hennessey to Bugatti and Koenigsegg, they are all expensive to undertake. The greatest aspect about them is that they offer everything they promise. Increased efficiency, safety, and power are specific attributes that keep supercars on a separate level.
Not all supercars are made equal. Although power is an underlying characteristic some deliver over and beyond. Here’s what some of the coolest production supercars with over 1000 hp look like.
10 Aston Martin Valkyrie: 1,160 HP
Aston Martin has decided that its foray into the hypercar market will get the elegance it deserves. The Aston Martin Valkyrie is lined up for 2022. It’s been given a power plant that pushes the limits to 1160 hp. It is a 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine made by Cosworth.
If you have some $3 million that’s still unbudgeted, the Valkryie might be just the perfect way to spend it. With this entry car, Aston Martin is no doubt making a bold statement.
9 Zenvo TS1 GT: 1,104 HP
Zenvo has been in the hypercar game for well over a decade now. They have produced more than 10 cars, most of which have caught our attention, for one reason or the other. Our car of interest is the TS GT, which was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
The ST1 is powered by a 5.8-liter V8 engine that has two superchargers. This is how this car produces the incredible 1,163 ponies. According to Zenvo, the transmission system on this car allows “ultrafast gearshifts” that take place through a seven-speed sequential racing gearbox.
8 Rimac Concept S: 1,384 HP
Rimac Automobili loves to tease us with some seemingly crazy ideas. The Rimac Concept One opened the way and the Croatian company never seems to settle. Whereas the Rimac Concept One did about 1,224 hp, the Concept S upped things a little more to pull 1,384 hp.
Power is transmitted via a two-speed dual-clutch gearbox that is connected to the two independent rear wheels. A single-speed gearbox works with each front wheel. The Concept S hits 0-60 mph in just 2.5 secods.
7 ARCFOX GT: 1,600 HP
The Arcfox GT supercar made its debut at the 2019 Geneva Auto show and raised quite a few brows with its specs. The most outrageous version of this car is known as the Arcforx-GT Racing Edition, and it’s a vehicle capable of summoning 1600 ponies.
The company developing this extravagant car is the state-owned BAIC group of China. The all-electric vehicle is all carbon-based to keep weight in check. Like in many cars of this nature, aerodynamics is part of the speed and power matrix.
6 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut: 1,262 HP
When the Jesko made its debut back in 2018, it was very clear it was out to carve its own space. The inclusion of the Jesko Absolut makes everything even spicier. The Absolut is poised to be a low-drag version. It sheds the standard fancy rear wing but gets smoother bodywork.
Power goes to the rear wheels via a nine-speed gearbox that Koenigsegg calls Light Speed Transmission. Koenigsegg hopes that it will be much easier to operate any Jesko version. The company is yet to give too many details about the Jesko Absolut. However, the sophistication of all its other cars is hugely present on this one too.
5 Koenigsegg Gamera: 1,677 HP
The biggest limitation about supercars and hypercars is the number of passengers, which is by design limited to two. The arrival of the Koenisgess Gamera changed all that, much to everyone’s surprise. This one will accommodate four persons, which means a small family can take a hypercar ride for dinner.
The Gemera is the latest addition to the Swedish company’s family. It is powered by a hybrid powertrain that takes up three electric motors and a 2.0-liter inline-three cylinder engine producing 592 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. It’s this combination that gives the Gemera a total of 1,677 hp.
4 Koenigsegg Regera: 1,480 HP
We aren’t done with Koeingseggs yet. The Regera is yet another one cranking more than 1000 hp. This is the car that paved the way for hybrid Koenigseggs. Power comes from here electric motors and that works alongside a 5.0-liter V8 engine. Unlike the conventional multi-gear transmission, power is distributed using an innovative system dubbed the Direct Drive.
The Regera is an exquisite machine in many ways. The total output comes to around 1500 hp. It’s possible to achieve very high levels of performance because this car is lightweight with lots of carbon fiber and Kevlar all round.
3 Lotus Evija: 1,973 HP
It might seem that everyone really wants to see how much power can be extracted from some engines. That’s the only way to explain why a road-legal vehicle can be allowed to generate almost 2000 hp as is the case of the Lotus Evija.
The Evija uses four electric motors with the capability to drive it all the way to 200 mph. These motors get power from a mid-mounted lithium-ion battery pack that can run for a cool 250 miles on a single charge. The company designed this hypercar for extreme track action that doesn’t compromise on-road comfort. The Lotus Evija, delivering 1,973 hp, will be like no other in the company’s lineup.
2 Bugatti Divo: 1,500 HP
We’ve known the Chiron and the Divo to be extremely outrageous in performance. Both are distinct in peculiar ways but the power of the Divo, which settles at around 1,500 ponies, is something that pushes boundaries. The Divo is also faster to 60 mph than a Chiron, reaching it in just 2.5 seconds.
Only about forty Bugatti Divos will ever be made. Laced with every expensive thing you may want in a car of its status, the Divo perfectly fits the huge price tag that comes along.
1 Hennessey Venom F5: 1,817 HP
Boundaries continue to be pushed, with new and old entrants getting smarter at every turn. The Hennessey Venom F5 has its competiton cut out. With more than 1800 hp coming from the twin-turbo 6.6-liter pushrod V8, the Venom F5 is proving to be outlandish and unapologetic.
Hennesey says they will build only 24 of these cars. Power goes to the rear wheels through a mechanical limited-slip rear differential. This car spots five drive modes: Sport, Wet, Track, Drag, and F5. The F5 is the epitome of power and can only be unleashed at 140 mph and beyond.
