The Petersen Museum in Los Angeles in the USA, arguably the most incredible car museum on earth, defines a “hypercar” as: “A vehicle that exists at the highest echelon of performance, technological advancement, price and rarity.”

To show off a collection of ultra-exclusive machines, the Museum has announced an 18-month-long exhibition of some of the finest vehicles ever made. They’re calling the showcase – “Hypercars: The Allure of the Extreme”, a display of the fastest, most expensive and exclusive cars in the world. The Museum will rotate up to 30 vehicles that highlight what hypercars stand for and why they have taken the automotive world by storm.

While a trip to the Petersen Museum might remain out of reach for most South Africans, you can take a trip down to the Franschoek Motor Museum in the Western Cape to see vintage cars, sports cars and a few hypercars.

The Franschoek Motor Museum’s collection comprises more than 220 vehicles, with 80 cars on display at any given time. According to the curator, vehicles such as the Porsche Carrera GT, Dodge Viper GT2, and Honda NSX are on display at the moment, but cars are shuffled around regularly, so you are advised to contact the Franschoek Motor Museum to make an appointment (due to Covid-19 regulations) to visit and to find out what’s on display.
