Munich Buying or leasing an electric car is not a rational matter, especially not in Germany. Surveys show that local drivers are more concerned than average about getting stuck with a Stromer or having to go to the charging station all the time. The Stuttgart car manufacturer Daimler is now promising a remedy to all those who are still plagued by range fears.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, one of the largest trade fairs for entertainment electronics, the Mercedes manufacturer presented the Vision EQXX: a research vehicle that can travel a thousand kilometers without recharging even with a compact battery. That corresponds to the distance from Berlin to Paris and is roughly double what most modern electric cars can do today.
Nobody can buy the EQXX. The model is unique. But a lot of the car’s technology should soon find its way into series such as the A-Class, the next generation of which will be launched on the market around 2024.
