It’s been almost nine years since BMW heralded the age of electric cars with the small i3. The Munich-based company has given itself plenty of time for the next very own electric car in order to take “the next big step in the transition to e-mobility”. With the SUV iX, BMW is now attacking from above instead of below, as the format of the iX is to be classified between the X5 and the X7. But there are no identical body parts, only the 22-inch wheels could exchange the three SUVs. When it comes to the electric drive of the iX, BMW speaks of the fifth generation, calculated from the first electric Mini with the batteries on the back seat and the BMW Concept Active E from 2008. This was followed by the i3 and the numerous plug-in hybrids that represent the fourth generation.

Two motors are installed in the iX, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle. All-wheel drive and a splendid performance of more than 500 hp as well as a fine maximum torque of 765 Newton meters result together. Expect some acceleration and no one will be disappointed. Although the 4.95 meter long strand weighs 2.6 tons, the iX whirrs from a standing start to 100 km/h in less than five seconds, and the propulsion is only electronically fenced off at 200 km/h. But you only drive that fast for a short time to try it out, the power consumption then increases practically immeasurably.
