Where and when do you see a lot of supercars camping in a meadow? At Le Mans in June. It’s a race, and the rich and self-respecting don’t go to the hotel, but camp right next to the track.
Some of the luggage on the lap due to the lack of trunk space and for a weekend not much more than a change of clothes, a toothbrush and a pallet of canned beer – customers of Aston Martin, McLaren & Co. usually travel differently. But this is not a trip like any other. It’s mid-June, the 24-hour race in Le Mans finally starts again on Saturday, and rich racers from all over Europe, but especially from England, are drawn to the little town two hours southwest of Paris. And because such events are always about being seen and not just about seeing, they don’t come with their Range Rover, BMW X5 or Audi Q7, in which you could easily take enough luggage for the weekend. They come across the Channel in swarms of supercars and set off on a high-performance outing to Le Mans.
The Internet is full of route recommendations, there are dozens of tour operators who boast about the most spectacular routes, and at the latest once you have made it across the Périphérique, the PS density on Autoroute 11 is greater than on a Friday evening in front of the Burj al Arab in Dubai.
