Coinbase names director of India market expansion

Global crypto exchange Coinbase has appointed Arnab Kumar, a former executive at Prosus Ventures, as director of India market expansion, TechCrunch reported on Wednesday.

The development comes as Coinbase is cutting about 1,100 jobs, or 18% of its workforce, the latest company buckling under the downturn in the cryptosphere, according to a company’s filing.

Coinbase had earlier this month said it would extend a hiring freeze and rescind a number of accepted offers to deal with current macroeconomic conditions.

Previously, Kumar served as India director of strategy for fintech for Prosus before leaving the company in November 2021. He also worked with the state think tank NITI Aayog as the programme director for frontier technologies. He is also an ex-investment banker.
