The carmaker Mercedes Benz will invest more than 1.3 billion euros in the training and further education of its employees by 2030 Germany. That is 1,000 euros per employee per year and more than before, explained HR manager Sabine Kohleisen on Thursday.
The shift to electromobility as well as digitized production and corresponding business models are changing all job profiles. “Lifelong learning has never been as important as it is today,” said Kohleisen. In the current structural change in the car industry is not a buzzword, but the condition for the success of the company. In a first wave, 80,000 of the 116,000 Mercedes employees in Germany would have new offers open to them. According to Kohleisen, the car manufacturer is also promoting the qualification of its 172,000 employees worldwide.
The professions changed – from fitter to electrician, from marketing specialist to data expert or from logistician to software developer, said the Mercedes board member. In administration and production, new e-learning platforms with thousands of online courses are to be introduced at the Dax group with immediate effect. There will be tailor-made learning paths for every employee for their entire professional life, which can be adapted again and again. There is no age limit. Courses for private interests are also offered, but these can only be used in your free time.
