Ford to find buyers for its capacity in Russia, but price will not be high – experts
MOSCOW, July 4 / TASS/. American automaker Ford continues to search for buyers for its Russian assets; German, South Korean and Chinese companies may become bidders, but the sale price is unlikely to be high, that is what the experts polled by TASS said on Thursday.
Ford is in commercial negotiations to sell its Russian assets and is currently considering proposals for the acquisition of factories from interested companies, the Ford Sollers press service told TASS. Currently, Ford automobile plants in Naberezhnye Chelny and Vsevolozhsk, as well as an engine manufacturing plant in Elabuga, are in the process of being closed. Its production lines have been closed since late June. “The closure of the plant is a complex and time-consuming process, which includes the preservation of the building and equipment, data archiving and other necessary actions,” explained Ford Sollers.
As previously reported by the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Ford will put the closing plants up f..

Cadillac Discontinues the CTS, CT5 Prepares To Replace It

After 17 years in production and three generations, the CTS has been retired from the Cadillac lineup. The final example of the breed – manufactured for the 2019 model year – features a VIN ending in K0148662.

Cadillac Society reports the Lansing Grand River assembly plant in Michigan finished the vehicle in Black Raven, a glossy paint which complements the sharp lines of the mid-sized sedan rather nicely. The CT5 prepares to enter production there for the 2020 model year, along with the CT4.
Both models share the GM Alpha 2 vehicle architecture, an evolution of the GM Alpha utilized by the ATS, CTS, and Chevrolet Camaro. Developed for rear- and all-wheel-drive applications, this platform is capable of taking various engine options ranging from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo to the Cadillac-exclusive Blackwing V8 and small-block V8 of the Camaro.
Turning our attention back to the CTS, the nomenclature was introduced for the 2003 model year on the Sigma platform. A 3.2-liter powerplant with six cylinders and 220 horsepower was offered in the beginning, then replaced by 3.6- and 2.8-liter engines. The CTS-V followed in 2004, packing the LS6 small-block engine with 400 ponies and 395 torques.
The LS6 was also found in the engine bay of the Corvette Z06, sharing its architecture with the LS1. In terms of suck-squeeze-bang-blow, the magnum opus of the CTS-V lineage is the third generation. General Motors once again made a case for the engine from the Corvette Z06, packing 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque on this occasion.
Given these numbers, the CT5-V is a disappointment in the making. Cadillac did mention a hotter version is coming, and with a bit of luck, the twin-turbo V6 will be replaced by a twin-turbo V8. In all likelihood, a de-tuned Blackwing engine from the CT6-V will be the culprit.
The CTS continues to be listed on the automaker’s U.S. website, starting at $46,995 excluding destination charge. Customers who prefer all-wheel drive can opt for this feature for an additional $2,000.

BMW and Daimler to team up in push toward self-driving cars
Andrzej Wojcicki | Science Photo Library | Getty ImagesBMW and Mercedes-manufacturer Daimler announced a new partnership on Thursday to develop autonomous driving.
Some 1,200 technicians from the two German auto giants will team up in a bid to develop self-driving technology. The engineers will work toward driver-assistance systems, automated driving on highways as well as parking. The firms say the technology will be specified to what industry insiders call SAE level 4.
“Further talks are planned to extend the cooperation to higher levels of automation in urban areas and city centers,” BMW said in a joint statement.
SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) levels determine the automation capabilities of vehicles, ranking from zero to five.
Level 4 vehicles can intervene if things go wrong or if there is a system failure. The car can perform all functions itself, although a manual override is available to a driver.
Daimler and BMW said they are targeting 2024 as a key date for installing the technology in cars available to the general public.
The automakers said the cooperation is “non-exclusive” and partner manufacturers and technology firms will take part in the work.
They added that the results won't be kept secret and other firms can see the conclusions “under license.”
Safer than a human? On Tuesday, the two German companies joined with nine other firms to publish a white paper on driverless technology, entitled “Safety First for Automated Driving.”
The report aims to draft worldwide industry standards for tackling the risks of self-driving cars and trucks.
Authors and experts from the firms involved say they aim to present the paper's principles and findings at auto industry and technology conferences over the next few months.
BMW said the main goal of the paper is to create a situation where an autonomously-driven vehicle is proven to be safer than one involving full human control.
Other participants in the document included Audi, Baidu, Continental, Fiat Chrysler, Here Technologies, Infineon, Intel, Volkswagen and Aptiv.
