New Griffith wows the crowds at the NEC Birmingham
Back again at the NEC for the Autosport 2018 show, the new Griffith was exhibited on the Rimstock stand where it sported a flip colour scheme.
Following the showing of the new Griffith on the display of the TVR Car Club at the Classic Sports Car show in November, we were back at the NEC again in January. This time sporting a new flip colour scheme the car was shown as part of the Rimstock stand where Matt Neal of British Touring Car Championship fame also displayed his BTCC Honda.
Standing some 6ft 6 inches tall – Matt was keen to see if he'd readily fit the Griffith.
Good news – he does with ease – bring on the race edition!
Additional invitation appearances of the new Griffith are planned for the coming months details of which will be announced shortly.

Asimo Still Improving Its Hopping and Jogging Skills
Image: Honda Research We learned last week that Honda is putting Asimo out to pasture, so to speak, which is a little sad, but not too sad: Honda is doing this because they want to instead focus on the other, more useful humanoid robots that they’ve been working on recently, like E2-DR. Honda learned a… Continue reading Asimo Still Improving Its Hopping and Jogging Skills

2019 Honda Insight Launched Into Production at Greensburg, Indiana Plant
15 May 2018, 6:39 UTC · by Mircea Panait
/ Home / News / Car Profile
Succeeding both the Insight and Civic Hybrid, the 2019 Insight has a lot to live up to. But fortunately for Honda’s hybridized compact sedan, the Insight is capable of 55 miles per gallon in the city (projected estimate) thanks to the best-in-class power-to-weight ratio. Not bat for the fifth electrified Honda model launched in the past 18 months, right?
17 photosFollowing its debut in prototype flavor at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in January, the newcomer is now in production at the automaker’s Indiana plant in Greensburg. Three more plants in Ohio support the Insight production. The Russells Point facility manufactures the twin-electric motor drive unit, the battery is assembled in Marysville, and the 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine is made in Anna.
To support Insight production in Greensburg, the plant added 19,200 square feet to accommodate the in-house subassembly of the vehicle’s front-end module. The modular approach started with the 2016 Honda Civic, and it’s also used by the CR-V crossover and Accord sedan. The Greensburg complex is also responsible for the installation of the high-voltage wiring, battery unit, and power control system.
“The new Honda Insight exemplifies our growing investment in the production of electrified vehicles in America and our associates in Indiana are proud to play a key role in this initiative,” declared Isao Matsuzaki, president of Honda Manufacturing of Indiana. “As the lead plant for Insight production globally, we are committed to delivering the quality and reliability that our customers expect.”
As we wait for the Japanese automaker to publish the MSRP of the 2019 Insight, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. At 151 hp and 197 lb-ft combined, the hybrid sedan is almost as powerful as the Civic 2.0-liter (158 hp) but torquier (138 lb-ft). Stepping up to the 1.5-liter turbo (174 hp and 162 lb-ft) is also to the advantage of the Civic in terms of ponies, but twisting force continues to favor the new Insight.
The previous generation was a direct rival to the Toyota Prius, and based on the fuel-economy estimates for the newcomer, the Insight shouldn’t be afraid of the outgoing Prius (54 mpg city). On the other hand, the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid in Blue specification returns 57 miles per gallon in city driving.

2019 Acura RDX Starts Rolling Off The Assembly Line in East Liberty, Ohio
16 May 2018, 9:03 UTC · by Mircea Panait
/ Home / News / Car Profile
After Honda announced that the 2019 Insight is in production in Greensburg, Indiana, the peeps at Acura follow suit with the all-new RDX in East Liberty, Ohio. The 10-speed automatic gearbox that comes as standard regardless of trim level is made further south in Georgia at the automaker’s Tallapoosa transmission plant.
28 photosRegarding the 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo, the direct-injected four-cylinder motor is manufactured in Anna, Ohio. Rated at 272 horsepower (276 PS) and 280 pound-feet (380 Nm) of torque, the engine can be matched to the available Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system. It’s this piece of equipment, along with the “exclusive platform” that led Acura to characterize the Gen 3 as the best-handling RDX yet.
“This new RDX defines the future of Acura, and our Ohio team did an incredible job preparing this first in a new generation of Acura vehicles for our customers,” declared Jim Hefner, plant manager at the East Liberty. Pricing isn’t available, but the wait won’t be long now that we know the RDX will arrive at dealers in June.
A “clean-sheet, top-to-bottom redesign” of the popular five-passenger crossover, the newcomer should be that bit more expensive than the 2018 model year ($36,000) with the 279-horsepower 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC V6 motor. At the other end of the spectrum, the 2018 Acura RDX tops at $44,200 for the Advance AWD.
Designed in Los Angeles, California and developed by the automaker’s North America team in Raymond, Ohio, the 2019 Acura RDX will spawn an A-Spec variant aimed at the more handling-centric customer. The A-Spec also happens to look the part thanks to gloss-black exterior detailing, 20-inch Shark Gray alloy wheels, red-and-black interior, larger tailpipe finishers, and sporty gauge cluster.
The RDX is one of the five models manufactured in Ohio, alongside the ILX and TLX sedans plus the MDX sport utility vehicle and NSX supercar. Regarding the NSX, some people claim the Type R and Roadster are just around the corner although Acura refused to confirm both models.

Australian Car Production Stops With The Last Holden VF II Commodore
20 Oct 2017, 15:54 UTC · by Mircea Panait
/ Home / News / Industry
The very first Holden to roll off the line is the 48-215 at Fishermans Bend on November 29, 1948. On October 20, 2017, the story concludes with the final VF II Commodore built at the Elizabeth plant, a Redline model which marks the end of the General Motors RWD Zeta platform and Australian car production.
8 photos“It’s the very last ‘true’ Holden, isn’t it?” Rightly so, and its replacement is a badge-engineered Opel Insignia marketed as the ZB Commodore. Front-wheel-drive by nature and capable of accommodating a V6 in the engine bay, there’s no denying the ZB isn’t the replacement the VF Commodore deserves.
Ford pulled out of Australia, and so did Toyota, leaving the sovereign country dependent on imports. All is not lost, however, as Holden prepares to welcome the Chevrolet Camaro as its new flagship in 2018. Converted to right-hand drive, of course, with the help of HSV. Oh, and by the way, HSV is expected to change its name into Walkinshaw. Because why not?
“The passion and dedication of the team here is second to none, it has been an honor to work alongside them. In the final years of production, we have been building categorically the best-quality cars to ever roll out of this plant, and our last car was our best,” declared Richard Phillips, Holden’s executive director of manufacturing. So, what happens to Elizabeth’s workers?
Up to this point, the transition program has resulted in approximately 85 percent of the workers finding new jobs. What’s more, 1,000 people will be retained as direct staff in Melbourne and across national zone offices. The 200-strong dealer network, meanwhile, consists of 6,000 employees.
Scheduled to go on sale in early 2018, the Holden ZB Commodore will be available with an assortment of four- and six-cylinder engines. The range-topping VXR will rely on a 3.6-liter V6 with a 9-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. In regard to output, 235 kW and 381 Nm of torque is not nearly enough compared to the LS3 V8 of the VF II Commodore, but then again, that’s how the cookie crumbles for Holden these days.

Sluggish Sales Equal Production Slowdown For Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Jeep, Fiat
19 Oct 2017, 14:42 UTC · by Mircea Panait
/ Home / News / Industry
Bad news, fans of Fiat Chrysler’s most Italian of brands! Both Alfa Romeo and Maserati are not doing great regarding sales, the reason why FCA decided to cut production for both automakers. And the reason for this slump in demand? Apparently, new Chinese import rules have hit Fiat Chrysler hard, especially the two brands.
36 photosAlthough China faced criticism in the past for being too lenient on emissions and pollution, the People’s Republic is working hard on addressing these issues. Collateral damage comes in the form of increased restrictions for automakers, mostly because China follows the model set by France and the UK, countries that will ban the sale of fossil fuel cars and SUVs by 2040.
By August 2017, China had reached its 2020 target for solar energy installation, which makes the People’s Republic the largest producer of solar energy in the world. Large-scale carbon capture plants are also on the way, with the first of a planned eight currently being built. The bottom line is, China’s government is very focused on reducing the carbon footprint.
And as a result of these policies, imported automobiles are not exactly welcome in the Middle Kingdom unless they’re hybridized or electric. Alfa Romeo and Maserati don’t have such vehicles in their lineup, and that’s the gist of it. According to Automotive News, FCA declined to comment on the matter, but the cited publication has the numbers to back up its claims.
The Levante plant in Mirafiori will shut down for two weeks between October and November, with sales in China now averaging 350 examples per month compared to more than 800 units per month in the first half of the year. Over at Alfa Romeo, the Cassino plant in Italy now builds 265 vehicles per shift instead of 300. This decision follows four Fridays that were hampered down by production stops, totaling a loss of 2,000-plus Giulias and Stelvios.
From 2,666 Stelvio units delivered in China in July, Alfa Romeo slumped to 227 examples in August. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade have both seen production reductions at the Melfi plant in Italy. From the report: “Workers at the plant have been temporarily laid off for 21 days this year, including 11 days in the third quarter. As a result, production of the two models was down 25 percent in the quarter.”
