Yesterday evening, Transport Minister Volker Wissing (52) was asked by today’s journal colleagues whether he is perhaps not concerned with the use of e-fuels, but with preventing the ban on combustion engines in 2035. The answer made people sit up and take notice: he had to ensure individual mobility – of course in a climate-neutral manner, said Wissing, and that too in the decade after next.
Why then give up the combustion engine, “we master it better in Germany than the rest of the world”. And “what’s the added value if we ban them now?” The technology will also enable climate-neutral mobility opportunities in the future. In the end it is clear: This transport minister would be only too happy to extend the life of the combustion engine.
