The Greens celebrated the founding of an economic association in an old factory building in Wilhelmsruh on Tuesday. “We want to build a bridge from business to politics,” said CEO Thomas Fischer. “Green politics is not in contradiction to economy, but can be a driving force.”

Not only these sentences, but the whole character of the event could give the impression that the Greens had only just discovered the economy and as if they were just beginning to overcome prejudices. The idea of thinking ecology and economy together is old. Cem Özdemir had already formulated them when he was still party chairman. As early as 2016, Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche was a guest speaker at a party conference of the Greens. The “Green Business Dialogue” has been in existence since 2018. Hesse has had a green economics minister since 2014, and the federal government has had one for a year and a half.
