They are young and innovative at the Red Bull Formula 1 racing team, but also extremely conservative. Max Verstappen’s triumph in Canada was the team’s 100th victory. What is the secret of success?

There is no pity, rather envy of the luxury problems that plague the currently leading Formula 1 racing team, Red Bull. The trophy cabinet at the headquarters in Milton Keynes, central England, is bursting at the seams, although it is as high as the entrance hall. But team boss Christian Horner didn’t want to expand the cabinet prematurely: “I’m superstitious on this point and don’t want empty shelves.

That’s why we win the trophies first, and only then do we build on them.” His racing team dutifully sticks to the line of approach in this regard, too. At the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday there was the eighth team win in the eighth race of the season, for Max Verstappen it was the sixth win and fourth in a row, this time ahead of Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes. The Dutchman is heading towards the title hat-trick.
