Back in China, BYD (Build your Dreams) has become a terror for German automakers. The Chinese electric car manufacturer is now number one in the world’s largest car market. The German brands are increasingly losing touch there. And now the Chinese have also gone on the offensive in the European home market of VW, Mercedes and BMW. Since the end of 2022, BYD has also been selling its cars in Germany, as have Nio and Great Wall, two other up-and-coming manufacturers from China. Other Chinese electric car manufacturers such as Polestar and MG have been on the road in Germany for some time.
