In view of the sharp rise in prices for heating, petrol, groceries and rent, many people probably gave up vacationing abroad this summer. According to the Federal Statistical Office, a package tour abroad is a whopping 45 percent more expensive this year than in the first Corona year 2020. The price for a package tour in Germany has also risen by 17 percent over the same period. In addition, in some European countries the price level in restaurants and hotels is still significantly higher than in Germany. So if you travel to Austria, Switzerland, France and the Nordic countries, for example, you have to dig even deeper into your pocket. In south-eastern European countries, the price level is lower than here, but there is also the sometimes long journey.
Instead, many probably stayed at home, went on excursions and perhaps ate a schnitzel. The statistical evaluation shows that people in this country also had to pay significantly more than three years ago. An overnight stay in a holiday village or on a campsite therefore costs almost a third more, and that in a hotel at least a fifth. Visiting the zoo or museum has become 12 percent more expensive. And food and drink? According to the agency’s survey, the price of fast food has increased by 23 percent over the past three years. In the restaurant it costs 19 percent more.
