The world’s largest car market China has continued to grow over the past year. The industry association PCA (China Passenger Car Association) reported on Thursday based on preliminary figures that deliveries of passenger cars to end customers rose by 9 percent to 2.4 million in December. For the year as a whole, growth climbed by 6 percent to 21.7 million models sold.
Before Christmas, the lobby association had already forecast an increase of a good 5 percent for the past year. Compared to the weak previous year, growth picked up. The Chinese car market had previously suffered for several years from customs disputes, the Covid pandemic and the poor availability of electronic chips.
China is the largest car market in the world and as such also for German manufacturers Volkswagen (including the daughters Audi and Porsche), BMW and Mercedes Benz the most important single market. However, competition is becoming increasingly tough, especially for mass manufacturers.
