The doubts about a quick departure from the combustion engine are growing. Because demand for electric cars in Europe is falling short of expectations, more and more manufacturers are revising their strategies. Mercedes now wants to sell combustion engines beyond 2030, and Ford is promising this at least for plug-in hybrids. Volkswagen, on the other hand, continues to rely on electromobility, but at the same time is trying to set up its plants as flexibly as possible and also wants to expand the range of plug-in hybrids. Manufacturers like Toyota and BMW have never believed in a model range that would be fully electrified by a certain date.
