The EU-wide ban on combustion engines in road traffic is still a long way off, but it is already coming under pressure. The most recent example: The Union faction in the Bundestag has decided to overturn the ban that will take effect in 2035 and wants to submit a motion on “technology-open climate protection” to parliament. In it, the CDU and CSU propose a catalog of measures for “climate-friendly mobility”, which aims to allow cars with conventional combustion engines to be registered even after 2035 if they run on climate-neutral synthetic fuels, so-called e-fuels.
