The federal government said not long ago that India is Germany’s new market of hope. The anthem should ring in your ears when the Federal Minister of Economics drives through New Delhi in the fall – and apart from the limousines in his own convoy, he probably won’t see any German cars on the streets. Because the amount that Volkswagen, Mercedes and BMW sell in India, they sell in China in a week and a half. Robert Habeck (Greens) has just fought in Beijing for what remains the most important market for the German auto industry.
