BMW is proud of its BMW World in Munich, and the Porsche and Mercedes-Benz Museums attract car-loving guests to Stuttgart. Now Volvo also has its own brand world in Gothenburg. The “World of Volvo” opened its doors to visitors for the first time on April 14th this year, exactly ninety-seven years after the first Volvo left the factory gates in the city on Sweden’s west coast. And Gothenburg has one more sight to see. The circular building in the center of the city, designed by the Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen, is a real eye-catcher and worth a visit simply because of its unusual construction. The largest and most complex wooden building in Scandinavia was built on an area of 22,000 square meters on the site of a former Saab transmission factory. It takes up the typical landscape and architectural tradition of Sweden. The topic of sustainability was at the center of the project.
