The access road to Albania’s most controversial transport project is already finished. The asphalt shines black, road markings shimmer white in the sun, street lamps and trees line the junction from the new motorway, which is currently used mainly by heavy trucks to get to the Vlora International Airport construction site. This is about to change soon. Albania’s third international civil airport, after Tirana and Kukës in the north, is scheduled to go into operation next spring. This is what Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluku announced, even though there is clearly still a lot to do before then.
