Driving licenses are becoming more and more expensive. The costs for driving school and fees rose by 7.6 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year, as the Federal Statistical Office reports. The general cost of living increased by 5.9 percent over the same period. This continues the trend of previous years: in 2022 the increase was at a record level of 10.8 percent, in 2021 it was 9.6 percent. The inflation rate was lower in both cases (6.9 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively). While driving schools determine their own prices, the fees for practical and theoretical tests are fixed. The last increase dates from January 2024, so it is not yet effective here. The actual individual costs for a driving license also depend on the number of driving lessons required.
