German FAZ: The digital school divide007810

AI plays a big role here. The students use them uncontrolled and without guardrails. Teachers do not have the expertise, personal experience or support to show students the way. It is depressing to read that there are approaches and suggestions for improvement – but no master plan to remedy the situation. The education ministries of the federal states and the federal government are called upon here, as is the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs – and ultimately everyone who deals with education. It would be a mistake not to quickly and sustainably ensure that school education includes AI. Why not a “Prompting” subject? Why no courses on how to use the LLMs? The students would definitely be there. Midjourney competitions for the best AI-generated image. I know: That sounds a bit strange to many of us who are older. But I count myself among this older cohort and see very clearly that these limits created by complacency can be overcome. Of course, we have even more in the program for the current issue: Holger Schmidt describes very clearly the resurgence of Chinese tech stocks and the reasons for this and why they are still undervalued in terms of price-earnings ratio. Worth reading – not just for investors. My colleague Nina Müller looked at the AI pact of the large Internet companies and came to the conclusion that voluntary commitments of this kind serve more for public relations and less for the goals of effective regulation through self-control.And then a Knaller: Why does an episode of the world’s most successful YouTuber (Mr Beast) sometimes cost more than an episode of Game of Thrones? We’re talking more than two million dollars per issue. Why? Because Mr Beast knows exactly how to be successful online and on YouTube and quickly recoup this investment. Our author Marcel Weiß took a closer look at Mr Beast’s internal documents and revealed the secret. Now to a topic that we have been working on for weeks: our AI Congress on November 6th and 7th, 2024 in the F.A.Z. Tower in Frankfurt. We cordially invite you to register at the following link: www.faz-conferences.de/kuenstliche-intelligenz F.A.Z.-bmWe would be very happy to talk to you and the good speakers. Presence is required here. Come and join us in the discussion. With best regards on behalf of the entire team, Johannes Winkelhage
