German FAZ: Concern about a “show summit” by the SPD008004

The Chancellor’s plan came as something of a surprise – even for his closest partners in the government. When Olaf Scholz (SPD) announced a “pact for industrial jobs in Germany” in the Bundestag last Wednesday, “a new industrial policy agenda,” both Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) were astonished. To date, there have been no cross-departmental preparations for such a project. There was also great astonishment in business. It was only after the Chancellor’s pithy words that the Chancellery’s invitation letter to a “confidential conversation” on October 29th went around.
