When the outgoing Prime Minister hands over his office to his successor and then cycles away in front of the cameras, that says something about a country. This is what happened in The Hague in the summer: Mark Rutte, now NATO Secretary General, met with the current Prime Minister Dick Schoof for a discussion in the “little tower”, the building in the parliamentary complex where the Dutch head of government has his office. Rutte handed over the key and jumped onto the bike, to the applause of the employees.
