If you want to understand what makes Harald Marquardt tick, you have to talk to him about Rietheim-Weilheim. The small community with almost 3,000 inhabitants is located at the foot of the Swabian Alb, an hour and a half drive south of Stuttgart. It is the home of the automotive supplier Marquardt, the company that Harald Marquardt’s grandfather founded in 1925 as a “special factory for electrical supplies and precision mechanics”. “I was able to witness how prosperity grew here and how the people who worked a lot here had a light in their eyes because they were able to reap the fruits of their work,” says the 63-year-old CEO, who is the Management of the company was handed over to a non-family manager for the first time at the turn of the year.
