German FAZ: EU Commission imposed millions of fines against 15 car manufacturers009058

The European Commission has imposed millions in terms of millions against 15 car manufacturers due to a cartel in connection with recycling, scrapped vehicles. The VW Group has to pay the highest fine with around 128 million euros, as the Commission announced on Tuesday. Mercedes had disclosed the cartel in Brussels and therefore escapes a punishment. Mitsubishi, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mazda, Opel, the parent company General Motors, Suzuki, Toyota and Volvo were also part of the cartel. The punishments amount to a total of 458 million euros. According to Brussels, the carmaker has agreed not to pay car dismantling for disassembly of cars that are no longer traveling. The argument that manufacturers agreed on: The recycling of the old vehicles itself is a profitable business.
