German Manager Magazin: Mercedes-Benz could sell leasing daughter Athlon to BNP004368

The car maker Mercedes-Benz apparently sparked interest in a possible sale of his Fleet management-Daughter Athlon. The DAX group was in advanced talks with the French Bankhaus BNP Paribas, the Bloomberg news agency reported on Wednesday, citing the matter. Such a business could evaluate the service provider around leasing and fleet management with around one billion euros, it said. The share of the Mercedes group recently noted slightly.

So far, however, the deal is not in dry cloths. Other parties have also signaled interest. A Mercedes spokesman said that the group continuously tested strategic options for his business, including Athlon. He didn’t want to provide any further information.

A sale of the leasing service provider was part of a broader review, it continued at Bloomberg. There had already been reports on corresponding explorations. Mercedes had Athlon 2016 acquired by the Dutch Rabobank for 1.1 billion euros And wanted to integrate the company into its own fleet management. BNP Paribas already has a mainstay in the shop with the provider Arval.

Athlon offers so-called full-service leasing for traders. All required services related to leasing such as the management of tank cards, repair, damage and service are included in a package and in one rate. Athlon takes over the coordination and handling of the various leasing components.
