It has not been long ago that Volkswagen wanted to get rid of his old model names as quickly as possible. Under the former CEO Herbert Diess, names such as “Golf” or “Passat” as a dusty ballast, new names such as ID.3 or ID.4 should point out the way to electromobility. But this is history in the group, and under his successor Oliver Blume, VW takes many turns, also in the name strategy. Short before the start of the automobile trade fair IAA Mobility in Munich, the group brand of the Group, the VW brand, will take a prominent example on the stage. It launches her new small electric car under a well -known name: Polo. The well -known small car came out in the world of internal combustion engines for the first time in 1975. Now the Wolfsburgers want to use their electrical variant from the coming year at the price of 25,000 euros to customers delivered the most delivered drafts of the new electric car a few years ago. Since then, the development under the working title “ID. As VW announced on Wednesday, the full new name should now be id.polo. At least the “ID” is preserved, so that has also been established from the point of view of the brand. Classic Volkswagen: This is what the VW Polo saw in its primal shape has always stood for “quality, security and democratization of innovations,” VW writes in a message. Above all, the model stands for comparatively cheap vehicles, and that is exactly what is still missing in the electric car market. The market prices for many models have recently fallen, for example due to falling prices for the batteries, but also thanks to strong discounts. Nevertheless, many customers find the cars too expensive. In addition to the high electricity prices, this is the most important entry-level hurdle to e-mobility. The ID.Polo is part of a family of four new electric cars. They were largely developed in Spain by the subsidiary Seat/Cupra, where the cars are also built. The first step onto the market is the Cupra Raval. It is somewhat higher than the other three related models, and will probably be a little more expensive. In contrast, the Skoda Epiq will move in the same price range of 25,000 euros. He is scheduled to come to customers shortly after the ID.Polo in the coming year. Another model of the group is said to be the VW ID.Cross, a variant as a small city off -road vehicle. His name is reminiscent of the successful combustion model T-Cross, which VW has just renewed. In a few years, an electrical version of the Golf success model will also come onto the market. The segment today covers the ID.3, an electric compact car. With the small electric car, VW hopes to address a large market segment in Europe. However, the competition is also great. The European-American multi-brand group of Stellantis is on the move with models such as the electric Fiat Panda or the Citroën ë-C3 in similar or even lower categories. The Chinese also attack in the segment. VW also wants to target the more lowest segment for the price range of 25,000 euros, the category of 20,000 euros. An electric car with the working title ID.1 that the Wolfsburgers want to produce in two years is planned. This is followed by the “e-up”, an older electric model that already linked to the established combustion small car of the “Up” series and used its known brand names. VW is still covered whether the new electric car will be called ID.UP or similar.
