German FAZ: “We would have to stop without optimism” 009974

Mr. Hausmann, you are now 75 years old, your family business in Hausmann, who has now run by the two sons Dennis and Patrick, has celebrated 125 years of existence this year. How many years of it did you consciously witness? When I came home from school, I was in business right away. At 15 I was really fully in the company. That was a time when things really went up. It was not always easy. It is still a matter of course that you have to become a showman? I had made a professional appreciation from school, and I should consider whether I want to become a decorator. By the way, my son Patrick got the same recommendation decades later. But in my time it was clear that you looked up at the father and the parents. My father always said: the boy stays with me. Even the chance that I would have had as a goalkeeper because clubs like Worms, Mainz, who wanted to sign Eintracht or Offenbach, was not an argument. What the father said was the law back then. But still: I had a wonderful youth. And our father needed me like my brothers, we were his capital. The Herr Sehring, then head of the gravel pit on Langener Waldsee, once became the board of directors of our bank at the management of us by describing us brothers as four Mercedes, which our father has as safety in the garage while he was humble Opel. Accordingly, our father got the loan because the Mercedes were good Schaffer. “We have a family treasure of experiences with crises”: Eddy Hausmann was chairman of the showman association Frankfurt/Rhein-Main for decades. He developed the family business in the fourth generation founded in 1900 into a brand recognized in the Frankfurt company that has been managed by his sons Dennis and Patrick for a little more than half a decade. The Hausmann, born in 1950, built, parallel to his brothers, who also worked in the industry, from the family of the family from the Family to a maritime operator. The Frankfurt Oktoberfest, which begins next to the Waldstadion on Wednesday, goes back to its idea. In the region’s football, he was considered a goalkeeper up to higher players than one of the best. He was the chairman of his home club Rot-Weiß Walldorf and member of the board of directors in his heart club Eintracht Frankfurt.Stefan Nielandthe The showman industry is an economic world in which time has stopped. Folk festivals remain largely analogous. The experience is still authentic on the roller coaster. Nevertheless, they have experienced a lot of change in the decades. When was it clear to them that they could develop as an entrepreneur in the industry? We used to go to school where we were at a festival. Four weeks in Egelsbach, in Frankfurt or in Walldorf. At that time no one had time to always go to the same school. It was not so easy with the curriculum for us. But we learned discipline. When the father died in 1973, he was only 59 years old, we were also highly indebted because a children’s carousel and a car scooter and a new snack had been bought in previous years. We had to stick together until we were debt -free. Then we divided everything and it went steeply. That gave me opportunities to implement ideas as a self -employed entrepreneur. Is that always a certainty that it will work hard with hard work? We have a family treasure of experiences with crises, all of which have been mastered. Whether they were war or corona. We would have to stop without optimism. You have to have love for the job because it is not just a profession, but a calling. There is a lot more in the word showman: you have to be able to do everything in different professions and always good courage. In one day like today, where it rains, you have to believe that it will be good. If you don’t think positively, you have not lost anything in our job. More on the subject of why, why does anyone rarely make it into the showman industry as a career changer? Do you have to grow in there and have 125 years of family tradition in your back? You can generally say that. It is a little different in our family and football is to blame. As a result, my brothers and I came into contact with other people, unlike usually, we did not get married in showmen. For example, my wife comes from a beverage gross trade in Walldorf, my brothers married a hairdresser and a woman from a tax office. It was certainly not easy for our women to get into the showman and also lead a family. But the entrepreneurial gave us completely different impulses. Entrepreneurial spirit: The organization of a Frankfurt Oktoberfest was Eddy Hausmann’s idea. Peter Jülicht, they address football: they were not only an excellent goalkeeper, but later also a long board of directors at Eintracht Frankfurt. Apparently, showmen can also bring their knowledge elsewhere. What competencies do you have for this? I was chairman of Rot-Weiß Walldorf in the 1990s, after stopping in the goal, and at the same time chairman of the showman association and on the board of directors of Eintracht. That gave me a lot, but I was also able to contribute a lot to Eintracht because I have a clue about people. Showmen have always thought in networks before there was the term. On the board of directors I was always the one who was straight. At that time I was against the expansion on the Riederwald, for example. The project, at least 14 million euros, which the Board of Directors had to answer, did not make sense to me. I have always pleaded for us to have to go to the stadium. This was realized many years later. It was always important to me that I represent my opinion and stand. Freedom was always worth a lot to me, you learn that in our industry. That’s why I always paid for my cards at Eintracht myself and didn’t want to give anything. If you look back on 125 years of family history, is that above all a basis for the future or obligation? My son Patrick cut a video together where a lot of people talked about our family. That touched me a lot. Especially because I realized again how we dealt with strokes of fate. Two older brothers of mine died before my birth. Our father died early, my brother lost his son Thorsten very early on with half a year, we had a dead birth. But it continued. More and more autumn dipping than the formerly the autumn of the biggest Frankfurt folk festival, unlike a few years ago, always lasts a little more than 14 days-a episode of corona and cost-enhancing crises that the showman industry added to. Large rides in particular can only be lured to Frankfurt if you guarantee them a certain time and corresponding sales. Starting with the opening on Friday at 3 p.m., the folk festival visitors have the opportunity to use more than a dozen rides, around 40 snacks and specialty stands or other amusements on Friday at 3 p.m. on Friday at 3 p.m.  The almost brand new Ferris wheel from the Gormann family of Gormanns offers a special feature: one of the gondolas is barrier -free with a wheelchair.
