One after the other, the traditional racing stable McLaren cannot be disturbed by the general unrest at the Grand Prix of Singapore and the impending strife in your own team. “Goal number one for us is to transform the second match ball to win the World Cup,” said Rennstallboss Zak Brown before the 18th World Cup run. Lando Norris and Oscar Piatri with their places exceed three and four. “Just wonderful,” cheered Norris. But not the tenth victory in the team classification determines the discussions below the equator, it is more about the team of the two pilots rival to the individual title. Piatri is still 22 points ahead of six outstanding races. Surprisingly, George Russell in Mercedes, who was also able to snap the second victory after the second pole position of the year, was attacked by Verstapapendie. Vote, tires and drivers harmonized as if the silver arrows could drive around the title. Unfortunately, this was too rare this racing year, but it is good for self -confidence. “Mega”, congratulated team boss Toto Wolff, his driver just yodeled. Defending champion Max Verstappen suffered a small damper in his chase if it is cheeky to see a second place as such. The third of the overall ranking on Norris could make up three dots, but the difference alone is still 41 points. All of the attack: Max Verstappen chooses the soft tires to have more grip at the start than George Russell in the pole position. But it is not enough to slow down the British in the sharp first kink. The right crowding -out competition runs right behind, and it immediately shows how close this city course is. Lando Norris shoots from fifth to third place in which he crowded past. The only problem with this is that the pushed out is his McLaren teammate Oscar Piatri. The two cars touch, but the Brit is past the World Cup leader. “It was not very friendly among teammates,” the Australian scolded the daring attack, which almost ended in the walls. Ooscar Piatri: “This is not fair” in the sense of the “Papaya Rules” internal racing law called Piatri to give Norris back to him. A few minutes will be discussed at the command stand, but then the application is rejected. According to the internal investigators, Norris had to avoid Verstappen. Piatri should rather concentrate on keeping what he can control under control. “This is not fair,” Piatri gives back as unfriendly as determined, “if he drives in his own teammate when dodging, then he does a pretty bad job.” It will not have been the last word in this matter. The incident shows that in the final sprint of this World Cup, the principle of equality previously practiced and the mutual consideration will hardly be maintained: McLaren is now really pressure on the boiler. Should there be free travel for both after winning the designer title, there is a risk of relapse to the times of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, which were led under the heading “Stall War”. George Russell quickly settles down after the first racing district, it looks almost comfortable – which of course is not the case at over 29 degrees. A small concentration error, and everything can be over. Lando Norris is involuntarily testing this, he scratches the edge of the front wing past a wall. Insplight, McLaren tries to strategically bring the British past the verbanity in front of him. Every now and then the mechanics are fitting to get ready for the preferred pit stop. Instead, however, Verstappen slips to the garage in the 20th round, brings the harder rubber compound and starts the journey to the front of seventh. Norris only takes half a heart “you can accelerate”, the racing engineer sparks hopefully into the cockpit. Back comes back after the high phase of the past few weeks, a rather cautious optimism comes: “Somehow everything is going against me in this race.” He has to fight tremendously to make this second place to the end. McLaren continues to do basic democracy, politely asks Lando Norris whether he wanted to give the rival Piatri the first change in tires in order to ward off the oppressive Leclerc. “Yes,” replies Norris, in order to correct himself immediately: “No, I mean.” The Brit comes first and is handled in a strong 2.1 seconds, but Piatri is 5.2 seconds because of a bitchy left rear wheel. This should hardly have contributed to the climate improvement at McLaren, more on the subject, the chance of the Norris attack on Verstappen, after the two of them had already been verbally clashed. A capital brick of the Dutchman and cars to be overlooked bring the British directly in the slipsters of the Red Bull racing car. A question of conscience, especially on this atmospheric slopes: this poses a not inconsiderable risk against the defender who is known as a tough. Once at least Norris takes a heart, but only half.
